Introducing Equestrian Profiles to Living Equine! These are going to be a great opportunity to showcase Equestrians in all different disciplines and walks of life.
The first Living Equine Equestrian Profile is on this young beauty, Taela McLean.

EQUESTRIAN QUICK TEN
1) What made you fall in love with horses?
My poppy is a great horseman and I was sat on his horse from a baby. I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember
2) How long have you been riding for?
I went for rides on my Poppy’s horse until I was 11, then I finally got my own pony! Mum and Dad were hopeful it was just a “phase”. I still haven’t grown out of it, and have been riding for 13 years now!
3) Have you done any Tertiary Education in horses?
I studied Equine in Years 11&12 as part of Vocational Education and Training, this gave me my Cert II in Equine Studies. Once I finished school I studied at Australian Agricultural College and got my Cert III in Horse Breeding.
4) Have you broken any horses in yourself?
Yes, as part of my studies we had to break in a young horse then display our horse at the end of the course in a “breaker challenge “.
I was also lucky enough to do a bit of starting work on babies as part of my job at River Ridge.
5) What are your greatest Equine Achievements?
I think my first equine job as a full time Horse Groom has been my biggest achievement. It has taught me more then any book or course could teach me, I am forever grateful for the experience and knowledge I gained in the almost 4 years I worked at River Ridge Equestrian Park.
6) What has been your deepest Equine low?
My first pony Rosie passed away this year at 31, and that was definitely the hardest thing I’ve had to do after having her in my life for 13 years.
7) What jobs have you been able to work with horses so far?
As above , I worked for just under 4 years at River Ridge as a full time Groom. This was my first job after finishing my course.
8) What are your current Equine ambitions?
My goals at the moment are just to have fun with my horse, to keep learning and improving and just getting out and about more in any discipline we can. At the moment I am hoping to start Eventing more with improving our Dressage the main focus.
9) What is your favourite movie?
I can’t really think of one, I’m not a big movie buff. I’m usually outside any spare time I have, but I love most comedies and action films.
10) Favourite accessory?
My favourite accessory are my rings. I don’t wear jewellery much on a day to day basis but I usually always wear my rings.
Living Equine thanks Taela very much for taking the time to be profiled, and wish her all the best with her future equine endeavours!
