It has been proven time and time again that the energy, emotions and thoughts that an Equestrian has, can be reflected back in a horse’s behaviour. This sheer truth can scare a lot of people from wanting to be involved with horses, because this level of their inner emotions and thoughts being expressed in a similar energy by horses in their care can be confronting. The really tricky task is attempting to control the energy that is being conveyed to the horses around us, to match that of what we want done.
Now of course sometimes even being truly aware of what energy our emotions and thoughts are creating can be difficult. If we don’t know what we feel at a particular time, or don’t understand what kind of energy a horse is interpreting this as, then how can one even begin to control the energy being conveyed by a horse. Horses are also obviously their own creature, with their own personality, thoughts and feelings, so not every energy we convey is going to strongly influence their behaviour. However it is important that we try to be in touch with where our emotions and thoughts are up to, so that we don’t contribute potentially dangerous energies to risky situations.
In the Equine Industry there is a reasonably high level of risk involved at all times, so bringing negative or dangerous energies around horses can result in horrible circumstances. This is why is is important to try to keep a standard of self discipline within yourself whilst around horses, and to know that there is a time and place to feel and think certain ways. This can take many years of life experience and maturity, but it is possible to get to a point where the correct energies are being conveyed to each horse in one’s care in order to influence the intended results.
I know that you are probably thinking; but we’re human and we can’t be so controlled all the time, and sometimes whilst feeling raw emotions we allow horses to teach us how to feel better. To that I say, this is ok! We’re not always going to be perfectly in check with our emotions because life can be one crazy ride, and at times a difficult pill to swallow, and for a lot of us, horses give purpose and therapy in both good and bad times. As long as when feeling raw emotions, safety around horses is not forgotten, then allowing horses to communicate to us how to feel better is more than ok.
A good example of energy translation may be a really angry person entering a big dominant horse’s yard feeling really livid, but still expecting this dominant natured horse to come to them to be caught. In some cases this angry energy may not influence such a dominant horse’s behaviour, but in more cases than not it probably will. Horses are quite majestic and chivalrous creatures, and I find that dominant ones tend to expect a particular standard of respect before being approached for anything. This respect can include the type of energy that you are creating whilst you approach them.
A second example may be a quiet person entering submissive horse’s yard feeling quite content at the time. Whilst approaching this horse to catch them, the horse may have the same respect standards as that of a more dominant horse, however they may be a bit more subtle in the way they expect this. There is no doubt though that a content and relaxed energy is the best energy to convey in most circumstances.
It may be a little bit of trial and error until the energies that you convey around horses are understood, but being able to be aware of this, and use this within your language to communicate with your Equine Companions, can truly evolve the conversations and results that you can achieve together.
