There is no doubt that some of you would have spotted yellow dots on your horses legs lately. Perhaps even had a the owner of these dots irritating you and your horse. Bot Fly Season brings with it a few more things to manage as far as the health and comfort of our Equine Companions are concerned.
There is one key thing that can be done to prevent Bot Flies multiplying or causing internal harm, and that is to remove the yellow eggs from the horse’s coat on a daily basis. This can be done with a Bot Knife in gentle downward motions, preferably on grounds where the eggs aren’t going to be then ingested via grazing. The removal of these pesky eggs will help reduce the amount that can hatch internally when they are ingested from the leg or chest via licking or scratching. It will also in turn then help to reduce the amount of Bot Flies born from faeces.
