Equestrian Profile – Glen Denholm ©

The next addition to Living Equine’s Equestrian Profiles, is the well-traveled horseman, Glen Denholm.

EQUESTRIAN QUICK TEN
1) What made you fall in love with horses?
My father was a horseman and animal trainer. I remember him putting me on a horse in our front yard when I was maybe 2 years of age. I loved the smell of the horses and the sound of them eating. I guess that’s what started my journey.

2) How long have you been riding for?
I have been riding and driving horses for over 60 years.

3) Have you done any Tertiary Education in horses?
I have a Diploma in Horse Breeding.

4) Have you broken any horses in yourself?
I have broken in, handled and started I guess probably two thousand horses over my life.

5) What are your greatest Equine Achievements?
Don’t know, I suppose teaching at TAFE in Equine Studies, doing the State Funeral for R.M. Williams in Queensland, the Main Arena productions for the Royal Agricultural Society (The Man from Snowy River and taking this show to Queensland) and doing horse education programmes – The Horse Experience.

6) What has been your deepest Equine low?
I had a beautiful grey mare I named Doublet. She was absolutely the best thing I have ever handled. She was by a stallion named “Mr C” out of a part Percheron mare named “Sophie” She started to weep from her near side eye which later developed into cancer. It was terrible when I left her at the Veterinary Surgeons to be put down. I looked back at her as I was leaving and still have this vision of this magnificent horse looking at me and wondering why she was not coming home with me. I think of her all the time. I still have two of her sisters, but they are not in her class.

7) What jobs have you been able to work with horses so far?
I have been able to do everything with horses that I ever wanted to do. Movies, Arena Shows, Television Commercials, Competitions in Harness, Education, just everything.

8) What are your current Equine ambitions?
My current Equine ambition is to show interested young people another way with the horse.

9) What is your favourite movie?
Lonesom Dove.

10) Favourite accessory?
My stock whips.

Living Equine thanks Glen very much for taking the time to be profiled, and wish him all the best with his future equine endeavours!
