How well do you know the paddock/ stable routine of your horses or the ones that you care for? Sure they have the routine that they need to follow outside of the paddock if they are performance mounts; but what about the things and places they go on a daily basis.
There may be certain places they that like to be in their paddock/stable at certain times of the day and night, everyday. If approached, there might be certain things they always do when they are happy and healthy. They might always go for a roll and drink as soon as they are let loose again. Perhaps they are more vocal or less vocal usually.
Noticing these acts of habit can be really helpful in knowing when a particular horse is feeling off. Of course they won’t do the exact same thing every single day hour for hour, however observing trends can assist as a first sign that something may be wrong.
